The Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano State is temporarily closed after a Max Air aircraft was involved in an incident on Tuesday morning, causing a temporary shutdown of the runway.
Max Air provided an update on Wednesday, detailing the events of the incident. According to the airline, the aircraft, a Boeing 737 with the registration number 5N-MBD, had taken off from Lagos and was scheduled to land at Kano airport. The plane crash-landed on the runway at approximately 04:28 AM, carrying 53 passengers and six crew members on board.
In a follow-up statement, Max Air confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. The airline clarified that the aircraft had been safely evacuated from the runway. “We wish to inform the public that one of our aircraft experienced an incident upon landing in Kano yesterday. Our crew handled the situation professionally, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew members,” the airline said.
As a result of the incident, the Kano runway has been closed temporarily for inspection and clearance, which is expected to cause delays in flight operations on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Max Air has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the runway closure and assured the public that its engineering team is diligently handling the situation.
