Speaking during the interactive session, which centered on fostering stronger partnerships between the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and traditional institutions, particularly in the areas relating to sustainable urban development, environmental protection, community planning, and the forthcoming 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Institute and her International Conference/AGM,
The National President commended HRH Igwe Asadu for his exemplary leadership, dedication to the preservation of traditional values, and ⁶outstanding contributions to peace, development, and good governance in his kingdom and Enugu State. He noted that the Institute holds the Royal Father in a very high esteem and appreciated his continued support for initiatives that promote orderly and sustainable developments.
The National President, on a sad note informed the Ogadagidi that Nigeria had been operating without any town planning law, since 1992 because the 1992 Nigerian Urban and Regional Planning Law, now an Act of the Parliament repealed every other town planning Law that ever existed in the country, “yet the law is not being implemented by the same Federal Government that promulgated it”. He appealed to the Royal Father to use his position to assist in achieving the full implementation of the vital law throughout the country. He added that even the hardworking Enugu State Government was yet to domesticate the law. He used the opportunity to invite the Igwe to the 2026 International Conference/60th Anniversary of the Institute scheduled for Lagos from 26th to 30th October. He equally sought the assistance of the Royal Father on the Anniversary project of the Institute – NITP Guest House.
In his response, the Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers welcomed the NITP National President and his entourage and told them that he benefited immensely from Town Planning and was prepared to support the profession to any length. He happily informed his visitors that his elder brother – Emmanuel Chike Asadu is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners. He promised to attend the NITP programmes in Lagos.
In his own words the Ogadagidi praised the NITP National President for his leadership ingenuity, describing him as worthy of celebration by Enugu State .
Like the other two prominent traditional rulers already visited – the Emir of Zaria and the Alaafin of Oyo, the Ogadagidi was pronounced an Ambassador of the Town Planning Profession by the National President.
On a final note the delighted Igwe Asadu commended the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners for its professional contributions towards the development of functional cities, towns, and communities across the country. He assured the Institute of the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution in advancing sustainable development initiatives.
