Agbese Philip, the Honourable Member-elect for Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, has stated that the forthcoming leadership election of the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly will not be influenced by money or by who the richest istm. He made this statement during an appearance on the AIT programme, Kakaaki, on Tuesday morning.
Agbese was reacting to reports in some sections of the media that suggested monies were being exchanged for leadership positions within the House of Representatives. He denied attending any such meetings where money was exchanged for leadership positions, stating that the Nationalist Forum, which he convenes, is not focused on centering the leadership election on money.
Although he is a first-timer at the National Assembly, Agbese emphasized his experience in parliamentary issues, having previously belonged to other parliamentary bodies outside of the country. He also clarified that the Nationalist Forum is working towards ensuring that competent persons are elected as National Assembly leaders, and that the party is also collaborating with them to ensure a free and fair leadership election.
He further stated that while waiting for the party to come up with zoning, they are also speaking with other political parties, reminding major players of youth advocacy that the leadership election should also reflect the yearning of the youths and not what ever they fill like doing for themselves.
Regarding his responsibilities to his constituents, Agbese acknowledged that expectations are high, but he expressed confidence that he will deliver on his promises with the help of God and their prayers for him.
