NYSC Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory for Mobilisation, Warns Prospective Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members will no longer be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD), as it intensifies efforts to strengthen its verification process.

The directive comes as the scheme prepares for the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members and continues measures to enhance their safety during the orientation exercise.

In a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC declared that NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members.

The scheme urged eligible graduates to complete the clearance process early to avoid delays in their mobilisation.

“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the notice read.

Reiterating the mandatory nature of the requirement, the scheme added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”

Although the NYSC did not provide further details on the clearance procedure, the latest directive signals a stricter verification process ahead of the next orientation exercise.

The advisory comes barely a day after the scheme announced the commencement of mobilisation activities for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all necessary documentation in preparation for the exercise.

It also follows a recent safety advisory in which the NYSC warned prospective corps members against travelling at night to orientation camps.

The scheme advised participants to break their journeys where necessary and lodge in safe locations or designated military and other security formations, rather than risk travelling after dark.

The renewed directives reflect the NYSC’s determination to improve both the credibility of its mobilisation process and the safety of prospective corps members amid growing security concerns on Nigerian highways.

As mobilisation activities gather momentum, prospective corps members are expected to complete all required registration and verification procedures, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, before reporting to their respective orientation camps.
