The Oyo State Government has made significant investments in security and infrastructure development aimed at boosting safety and improving the state’s road and power networks. Following a State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, revealed that the government had acquired two advanced surveillance aircraft valued at ₦7.76 billion. These aircraft, the DA 42 MNG model, are specifically designed for intelligence gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the planes are capable of detecting threats from varying altitudes, making them effective tools in tracking and combating criminal activities across the state. Oyelade explained that the aircraft will strengthen the operations of Amotekun, Oyo’s indigenous security outfit, as well as other federal security agencies in fighting against banditry, kidnapping, and illegal mining activities. He further noted that these planes are cost-effective, require minimal maintenance, and are compatible with the Nigerian Air Force’s existing fleet—creating an opportunity for seamless inter-agency collaboration.
In addition to the aircraft, the State Executive Council approved ₦83 billion for the ongoing development of the 110-kilometre Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road. This fund will be used for the construction of bridges, interchanges, and clearing work in critical areas such as Molarere, Odo-Oba, and the vicinity of the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University. Oyelade confirmed that 72 kilometres of the road are currently under construction and are expected to be completed before the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
Further allocations include ₦36.3 billion for asphaltic upgrades on major roads like the Secretariat Road, the Trans Amusement–University of Ibadan–Sango Road, and Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Road. An additional ₦6.8 billion has been earmarked for the reconstruction of the Mobil–Oluyole Industrial Estate road network. Lastly, ₦595 million was approved for direct support of the Light-up Oyo Solar Project, with a recurring monthly maintenance budget of ₦190 million to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.
