Peter Obi expresses support for the Abure led Labour Party
Peter Obi expresses support for the Abure led Labour Party: Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has expressed his unwavering
support for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Julius Abure, emphasizing the need for
unity and safeguarding the party’s future. During a solidarity visit to the party leadership at the National
Headquarters in Abuja, Obi stressed the importance of prioritizing the well-being of Nigerians and the nation
over personal interests. He encouraged disgruntled party members to put aside their differences and work towards
reconciling conflicting factions, emphasizing that unity is crucial for the party’s success.
Obi highlighted that Nigeria’s challenges revolve around human capital development, including food security, education,
healthcare, and access to clean water. He emphasized that the party’s focus should be on addressing these issues rather
than personal interests. Julius Abure, the national chairman of the party, expressed gratitude for the visit and urged party
members to put aside their individual interests and work together for the party’s success.

However, Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has announced that he is suspending his relationship with the
Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party, citing corruption and incompetence. Okonkwo, who was the
spokesperson for the Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 election, described the current NWC
as another corrupt and incompetent association, comparable to the All Progressives Congress (APC) he left before.
He emphasized that he prefers to lose doing the right thing than win doing the wrong thing.
The development highlights the ongoing internal conflicts within the Labour Party, with some members expressing dissatisfaction
with the current leadership. Despite this, Peter Obi’s visit and declaration of support for the NWC aim to promote unity and reconciliation within the party, recognizing the importance of a united front for the party’s success in future elections.
