Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has mourned the death of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, describing him as an embodiment of Nigerian excellence.

Obi paid tribute to the late actor in a statement posted on his X handle on Thursday, following the announcement of Jacobs’ death by his family on Wednesday.

He described Jacobs’ contribution to Nigeria’s film and creative industry as remarkable, noting that his career spanned several decades in both Nigeria and Britain.

According to Obi, Jacobs demonstrated the importance of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft throughout his career.

“Ol u Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit. He exemplified this through his remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, in a career spanning several decades across both Britain and Nigeria,” Obi said.

The former governor said the actor’s death was a reminder that life is temporary and that people should use their talents and responsibilities to make meaningful contributions to society.

He added that Jacobs’ life showed the importance of giving one’s best in whatever responsibility or field of endeavour one is entrusted with.

Obi expressed condolences to Jacobs’ family, friends, colleagues and members of the Nigerian creative community.

He prayed for the repose of the actor’s soul and for strength for those mourning his death.

“May the good Lord grant our father, Olu Jacobs, and all the faithful departed eternal rest. Amen,” he said.
