Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, has raised questions about how George Nwaeke, the recently resigned Rivers State Head of Service, managed to afford a stay at the luxurious Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja on a basic salary of less than 500,000. Ehie suggested that Nwaeke might have received financial support from political opponents.
In an interview with Channels TV, Ehie attributed Nwaeke’s actions to a lack of contentment and fear of life after leaving office. He remarked, “George Nwaeke is not a contented man. He just feels, ‘Ah, I have left this position. What would I be doing now? Who will help me, and how will I survive?'”
Ehie further emphasized the financial improbability of Nwaeke’s lodging arrangements, stating, “George Nwaeke’s basic salary was less than 500,000, so how did he lodge in Transcorp Hilton? It is obvious that these are people who are dishonorable.”
He also elaborated on the circumstances of Nwaeke’s resignation, noting that the governor would not have provided financial support since Nwaeke claimed to have resigned voluntarily, citing his inability to serve under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Ehie concluded with a critical view of Nwaeke’s character, accusing him of betraying his conscience, family, and children due to dissatisfaction and external influence.
