Rotimi Amaechi Rejects African Democratic Congress Primary Result, Alleges Irregularities and Voter Exclusion

Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, describing the results released by the party as manipulated and lacking credibility.

Amaechi made his position known in a statement shared on his X account on Wednesday shortly after the conclusion of the ADC presidential primaries held across the country.

The former governor alleged that the primary election process was deeply flawed and characterized by widespread disenfranchisement of party members, claiming that the majority of eligible participants were denied the opportunity to vote.

According to him, the results announced by the party leadership did not reflect a transparent or democratic process.

Amaechi noted that he had earlier promised to accept the outcome of the exercise only if it was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, insisting that the process fell far short of those expectations.

He argued that it would be impossible for him to accept a process in which, according to his claims, nearly 80 percent of party members were allegedly excluded from voting.

The former minister further accused the ADC leadership of engaging in the same electoral irregularities the opposition party had often condemned in the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Amaechi alleged that practices such as vote buying, result manipulation, and voter suppression had undermined the credibility of the primaries.

He maintained that the ADC was originally envisioned as a platform capable of offering Nigerians a genuine alternative and amplifying the voices of ordinary citizens regardless of ethnicity, religion, or social background.

According to him, the party was expected to stand against impunity and poor governance, while promoting fairness and democratic values.

Amaechi’s rejection of the primary results is likely to deepen internal tensions within the ADC as the party continues preparations for the 2027 general elections.
