Sanusi II Reinstated as Emir of Kano After Four Years
Sanusi II Reinstated as Emir of Kano After Four Years: His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II has been officially reinstated as the 16th Emir of Kano,
marking a significant development in the state’s political landscape. This move comes just a day after
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signed into law a bill that abolished the five emirates created by the previous
administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje. Sanusi had earlier received his appointment letter as Emir, paving the way for his reinstatement.
The reinstatement ceremony, held at the Art Chamber of the Kano State Government House, was attended by
Governor Abba Yusuf, traditional rulers, kingmakers, and other dignitaries. This marks a significant moment for
Sanusi, who was deposed from the throne four years ago by the Ganduje administration.
the replacement
The new law replaces the Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019, and dissolves the emirate councils created by Ganduje.
The law had been used to split the Kano Emirate into five in December 2019, leading to Sanusi’s deposition on March 9, 2020.
The emirates created by Ganduje were Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya, in addition to Kano.
Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is a well-known figure in Nigeria’s socio-political and economic landscape.
Before becoming Emir, he was known as Lamido Sanusi. His reinstatement marks a significant development in the political dynamics
of Kano State, and it remains to be seen how this move will impact the state’s political landscape in the coming days and weeks.
