Former Senator Shehu Sani has launched a scathing attack on outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him of leaving Nigeria in ruins after eight years of governance. Sani described Buhari’s administration as a colossal failure and claimed that the President had set traps for the incoming government to mask his own shortcomings.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Sani criticized Buhari for lacking economic direction throughout his tenure. He argued that the outgoing President failed to protect the lives of Nigerians, with a staggering number of deaths and a significant population of internally displaced persons and refugees. According to Sani, Buhari fell short in all aspects of development and success, including his failure to implement promised restructuring measures and his alleged preferential treatment of the wealthy at the expense of the poor.
Sani further lambasted Buhari for his decision-making abilities, claiming that the President often shied away from tough choices. He also pointed out the incomplete projects left behind by Buhari’s administration, burdening the country with substantial debts for years to come. Sani accused the President of empowering a select group of individuals, known as the cabal, who allegedly benefited from his tenure while the common people suffered.
Additionally, Sani criticized Buhari’s handling of healthcare, suggesting that the President’s frequent trips to London for medical treatment were indicative of his failure to address the healthcare needs of the nation. He accused Buhari of intentionally setting traps for the incoming administration, implying that these traps were designed to make his own administration appear better by comparison.
In summarizing his critique, Sani highlighted the issues that he believed Buhari would leave behind. These included rampant inflation, currency devaluation, high unemployment rates, a significant decline in GDP, escalating poverty figures, and a record misappropriation of state resources. Sani also claimed that the country was facing a mental health crisis, with millions of citizens suffering from mental illnesses, while healthcare workers were on strike.
