Supreme Court Verdict Upholds Governor Adeleke’s Victory in Osun State Gubernatorial Election

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has expressed his commitment to delivering good governance following the Supreme Court’s judgement affirming his victory in the July 16 gubernatorial election. The apex court dismissed the appeal of Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola, the immediate past governor of the state, who challenged Adeleke’s victory. Justice Emmanuel Agim, delivering the judgment, ruled that Oyetola’s allegations were baseless and unfounded hearsay.

Governor Adeleke, in his response to the judgment, appreciated the Supreme Court justices for upholding the truth and the people’s will, which he believes strengthens the country’s democracy. He extended his gratitude and admiration for their commitment to justice and equity. The governor sees the validation of his mandate as a call to duty and an opportunity to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State.

Emphasizing his pro-people approach to governance, Adeleke called for the support and cooperation of all residents and citizens, irrespective of their political party affiliation. He urged them to join hands in developing the state, highlighting that unity and collaboration are crucial for progress.

The news of the Supreme Court’s verdict sparked jubilation among residents in various towns of Osun State. Hundreds of people took to the streets of Osogbo, Ede, and other major towns, singing and dancing to celebrate Governor Adeleke’s affirmed victory. Convoy processions displaying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flags were observed at Dada Estate and Lameco roundabout in Osogbo, adding to the atmosphere of festivity.

In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), supporters and stakeholders expressed their optimism and satisfaction with the court’s decision. Mr. Adedeji Oluwafemi, a PDP chieftain, stated that the verdict restored hope to every citizen of Osun State.

He expressed confidence in Governor Adeleke’s ability to focus on human and capital development, enhancing the lives of the people and the state as a whole. Another supporter, Mr. Samuel Efunkunle, prayed for the governor’s wisdom and knowledge in governing the state effectively, urging all stakeholders to support the present administration’s efforts.

The joyous sentiments were not limited to political supporters alone. Residents from various walks of life, such as market women and men, also celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision. They gathered at places like Dada Estate market, expressing happiness through songs, dances, and prayers.

Mrs Mary Ogundayo and Miss Comfort Adeyemi, residents of Rinsayo Estate, thanked God for the verdict, urging members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to collaborate with Governor Adeleke to elevate the state to new heights.

With the litigation concluded, Governor Adeleke can now focus on his governance agenda and the development of Osun State. The Supreme Court’s affirmation of his victory has provided him with renewed impetus to continue his efforts towards delivering good governance and meeting the expectations of the people. As the governor and the residents work together, Osun State has the potential to achieve remarkable progress and prosperity under Adeleke’s leadership.
