President Bola Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), forwarding their names to the Senate for confirmation.
The nominations comprise three returning executive directors and three new appointees, who are expected to serve five-year terms if confirmed by the Senate.
According to a statement issued on October 30 by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the returning nominees are Abiodun Adeniji, for Executive Director, Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha, for Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Dr Mustapha Lamorde, for Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
The three new nominees are Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa, for Executive Director, Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie, for Executive Director, Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib, for Executive Director, Corporate Services and Administration.
Tinubu urged the Senate to consider the nominations expeditiously to ensure continuity in the authority’s operations and strengthen its regulatory oversight capacity.
The President also approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board of the authority and Legal Adviser, subject to the completion of statutory procedures under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The nominations come months after Tinubu appointed Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the NMDPRA’s Authority Chief Executive in April 2026.
The NMDPRA is responsible for regulating Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations, including gas processing, transportation, storage, distribution and refining-related activities.
The Senate’s confirmation will determine whether the six nominees assume their proposed positions for the stipulated five-year terms.
