President Bola Tinubu has officially approved three significant bills: the South-West Development Commission Bill, the South-South Development Commission Bill, and the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025. These new laws are expected to drive regional development, strengthen economic growth, and uphold Nigeria’s integrity in global sports.
The announcement was made by Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, who emphasized that the legislations demonstrate Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and national progress. He described the establishment of the two regional development commissions as a testament to Tinubu’s leadership style, which focuses on economic empowerment and infrastructure expansion.
Lado highlighted that Tinubu’s decision aligns with his previous approval of the South-East and North-East Development Commissions, showing a clear strategy to ensure balanced development across all parts of the country. According to him, these commissions will play a vital role in boosting industrialization, creating jobs, and enhancing social development, ensuring that no region is left behind in the nation’s growth agenda.
Furthermore, the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025, is seen as a crucial step toward maintaining fairness in sports. Lado explained that by domesticating the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sports, Nigeria has taken a strong stance against unfair practices in athletics and other sporting disciplines. He added that this move not only protects Nigerian athletes from being disadvantaged by doping-related scandals but also strengthens the country’s global reputation as one that values integrity in sports.
With these newly signed laws, the Tinubu administration aims to drive economic development at the regional level while also ensuring Nigeria maintains high ethical standards in sports, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to fairness and excellence.
