President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday called on state governors to strengthen their cooperation in addressing the country’s security challenges, while assuring that efforts are underway to secure increased international support to reinforce Nigeria’s security framework.

 

He made the remarks when Kashim Shettima led a delegation of governors on the customary Eid-el-Fitr visit to his residence in Lagos.

 

The President expressed appreciation to God for the unity displayed during the Ramadan period, noting that Muslims across the country observed the fasting season in harmony from start to finish, reflecting shared faith and national togetherness.

 

Tinubu also praised the governors for their ongoing support, emphasizing that the next stage of governance must prioritize tackling insecurity and restoring peace nationwide. He stressed that the fight against threats to national stability requires collective commitment and sustained effort.

 

Describing insecurity as a significant barrier to development, growth, and prosperity, the President urged all tiers of government to remain focused and determined in confronting the challenge.

 

He further revealed plans to deepen Nigeria’s global partnerships to obtain advanced equipment, intelligence sharing, and specialized training necessary to combat terrorism and other security threats more effectively. According to him, discussions held in the United Kingdom centered heavily on securing such support.

 

Tinubu disclosed that he also engaged in extensive talks with Emmanuel Macron on enhancing security cooperation, noting France’s willingness to assist Nigeria with equipment and strategic support.

 

He added that Nigeria would leverage its diplomatic relationships and goodwill to access resources, including credit facilities, aimed at boosting the nation’s security capabilities.

 

In addition, the President urged state governments to intensify efforts toward supporting vulnerable populations, acknowledging progress made so far while encouraging further improvements in social welfare delivery.

 

Tinubu also warned that rising global tensions, particularly in the Middle East, could worsen inflation and reduce citizens’ purchasing power, with likely effects on transportation costs and overall living standards.

 

He assured that the Federal Government would continue engaging labour unions and other stakeholders to cushion the economic impact and maintain social stability.

 

The President commended the Vice President for his prompt response to recent security incidents in Borno State, describing his actions as swift and commendable, especially in showing solidarity with affected communities.

 

Reaffirming his administration’s resolve, Tinubu stated that investments in technology, intelligence, and security infrastructure would be intensified to decisively tackle insurgency and related threats across the country.

 

The governors’ visit was led by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who also serves as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
