Troops Dismantle Criminal Network, Recover Stolen Weapons in South-East and South-South

The Nigerian Army has recorded another major success in its ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the South-East and South-South regions after dismantling a criminal syndicate linked to violent attacks and recovering a cache of stolen weapons.

The operation was carried out by troops of Operation Udoka, who acted on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance to track down members of the criminal group. According to military authorities, the syndicate had been involved in several criminal activities, including attacks on security personnel, illegal possession of firearms, and other acts capable of threatening public safety.

During the operation, security forces arrested several suspects believed to be connected to the criminal network. The suspects reportedly provided useful information that led troops to hidden locations where weapons and ammunition had been concealed. The recovered items included military-grade firearms, magazines, ammunition, locally fabricated guns, and other dangerous weapons that had allegedly been stolen from security personnel during previous attacks.

The Army explained that the breakthrough was achieved through intelligence-driven operations and the cooperation of other security agencies. It noted that continuous military pressure has weakened the activities of armed groups operating within the region, forcing some members to surrender weapons voluntarily while others have been apprehended.

Military authorities reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to eliminating criminal hideouts and dismantling networks responsible for insecurity across the South-East and South-South. They stressed that the operation forms part of a broader strategy to deny criminal elements access to weapons and disrupt their ability to carry out attacks against innocent citizens and security operatives.

The Army also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can aid ongoing operations. According to the military, public cooperation remains vital to sustaining recent gains in the fight against criminality and ensuring lasting peace in affected communities.

The latest operation underscores the determination of the Armed Forces to protect lives and property while strengthening security across the country. Authorities expressed confidence that sustained intelligence gathering, collaboration with relevant agencies, and continued public support will further weaken criminal groups and create a safer environment for residents in the South-East and South-South regions.
