Turkish Embassy in Ghana Moves to Deepen Literary Ties with African Writers

The Turkish Embassy in Ghana has expressed readiness to deepen its relationship with African writers and creatives through literary exchanges and increased opportunities for their participation in literary events in Türkiye.

The proposed collaboration is expected to create opportunities for African writers to attend literary programmes in Türkiye while promoting cultural and literary exchanges between Turkish and African literary communities.

The development followed a meeting on Thursday, November 5, 2026, when the Secretary-General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), Dr Wale Okediran, paid a courtesy visit to the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Hüseyin Güngör, in Accra.

During the meeting, the Turkish Embassy indicated its willingness to cooperate with PAWA in promoting literary activities and strengthening cultural relations between Türkiye and African writers.

Okediran, while congratulating Türkiye on its development across various sectors, expressed appreciation to the ambassador for the proposed partnership and his willingness to support greater engagement with African literary professionals.

The proposed arrangement is expected to strengthen connections between writers from both regions, encourage cultural understanding and create platforms for the exchange of literary ideas and experiences.

Turkish literature has a long-standing tradition, with contributions from notable writers across historical and contemporary periods. Greater engagement with African literary organisations could provide opportunities for writers from both regions to explore one another’s literary traditions and creative works.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts to expand international partnerships and create opportunities for African writers to participate in global literary activities.
