The United States Department of State has announced combined financial rewards totaling up to $18 million for critical information leading to the identification, location, or arrest of key leadership figures associated with Islamic State-Khorasan (ISIS-K).

Administered through the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service via its Rewards for Justice program, the initiative targets senior operatives within the regional affiliate responsible for executing high-profile terrorist attacks across South and Central Asia. Up to $10 million is being offered specifically for information regarding Sanaullah Ghafari, also recognized as Shahab al-Muhajir, who has functioned as the overall leader of ISIS-K since his appointment in mid-2020. Officials credit Ghafari with approving all operations conducted by the affiliate, as well as directing its global fundraising and operational logistics.

Simultaneously, the U.S. government is offering an additional reward of up to $8 million for details leading to the arrest or conviction of any individuals who aided, facilitated, or carried out the deadly August 2021 suicide bombing at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport during military evacuation operations. That catastrophic attack resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members alongside at least 170 Afghan civilians.

By deploying significant monetary bounties, international counterterrorism agencies aim to disrupt ISIS-K’s command structure, dismantle its financial networks, and mitigate ongoing security risks.

American security officials emphasized that these rewards demonstrate an ongoing global commitment to hunting down terror organizers, preventing future foreign attacks, and holding accountable those involved in targeting international troops and civilian populations.
