Nigerian media personality, Rufai Oseni, has criticised the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, for failing to provide detailed policy proposals on how he intends to tackle Nigeria’s challenges if elected president.
Oseni made the remarks on Monday while reacting to Obi’s interview on Channels Television, during which the former Anambra State governor outlined his vision for the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on ARISE Television’s Morning Show, Oseni argued that presidential candidates must move beyond broad campaign promises and begin presenting practical, well-articulated policy frameworks that Nigerians can evaluate.
According to him, with barely six months to the general election, the electorate should already have access to comprehensive manifestos detailing how candidates intend to implement their proposed policies.
“And that’s what I did not see yesterday. I didn’t see the how. We can’t run a country on vibes. By now, if elections are in January, we are now in August, we have not seen manifesto. Six months to go,” he said.
The broadcaster maintained that political debates should now focus on the ideas and methodologies behind campaign promises rather than the promises themselves.
“Secondly, we are not seeing proper articulation of how you will do it.
“In fact, I think all candidates should stop telling us ‘I will do this.’ They should start telling us how. We should see an idea. It’s the idea that we want to debate, the workability of the idea, and that I didn’t see. I didn’t see a lot of that,” Oseni stated.
He also criticised the recurring pledge by politicians to tackle insecurity without providing a clear strategy for achieving that objective.
“We will fix insecurity. How? And please, people should stop telling us ‘I don’t want to share my operational details.’
“Nobody says you should share your operational details because, as a candidate, you can’t have operational details. Operational details are specific to operations, hence the name operational details.
“Nobody says you should share that. What we are saying is overarching details, methodology, how you are going to do it. That’s just it,” he added.
Oseni further stressed that Nigerians deserve more technical and methodological explanations from presidential hopefuls, particularly on critical sectors such as electricity, infrastructure and economic development.
“I mean, these are things as regards technicality and methodology. These are the things I want to hear from our candidates,” he said.
His comments come as political parties gradually intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with increasing calls for candidates to present detailed policy agendas that can be scrutinised by voters and experts before the polls.
