As of December 31, 2024, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has signed 5,481 Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O). This achievement, announced by Lere Olayinka, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, reflects significant progress compared to the 8,400 C-of-O signed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) over a 13-year span from 2010 to 2023.
Olayinka emphasized that the process has been streamlined, allowing land allottees to receive their C-of-O within two weeks after making the necessary payments. He explained that delays in issuing these documents had previously discouraged many landowners from completing their payments. However, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, these issues have been addressed.
Additionally, Olayinka highlighted that the documentation process, which includes recording details of the collector and the collection date, now takes only 72 hours instead of months. He noted that from May 2015 to May 2019, just 1,174 C-of-O were produced and signed, with a slight increase to 1,571 between May 2019 and May 2023. In contrast, since President Tinubu took office in May 2023, Minister Wike has signed 5,481 C-of-O by the end of 2024.
To further enhance efficiency, land allottees whose C-of-O are ready for collection will soon receive automated SMS notifications. This initiative aims to address the issue of many allottees being unaware of the readiness of their title documents.
