Wike’s PDP Faction Calls for Unity, Demands Loyalty as 2027 Preparations Begin

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has invited dissatisfied members to return to the party, but under strict conditions that emphasise discipline, loyalty, and unity as it begins early preparations for the 2027 elections.

The group made it clear that while reconciliation efforts are ongoing, they must be grounded in adherence to party rules and a deliberate effort to move past the internal divisions that have recently plagued the party.

This stance was outlined in Abuja by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, during the party’s 87th BoT meeting attended by key stakeholders. He urged members across all levels to prioritise unity and work collectively toward rebuilding the party’s strength.

Party leaders also highlighted the significance of the 2026 National Convention, describing it as a stabilising moment that provided an opportunity to reset and refocus. Ohuabunwa cautioned against allowing renewed disagreements to undermine the progress achieved, stressing that the convention marked only the beginning of a larger task.

He reaffirmed the BoT’s role as the guardian of the party’s principles, integrity, and long-term direction, while warning members not to become complacent after recent gains.

The chairman further pointed to ongoing reforms, including the introduction of electronic registration and broader modernisation initiatives, noting that such measures are vital for improving transparency, accountability, and organisational growth. He encouraged members to put collective interests above personal ambitions.

Also addressing the gathering, National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman Takushara echoed the call for unity but stressed the importance of discipline and internal order. He advised that grievances should be addressed through established party mechanisms rather than public platforms.

Takushara underscored that loyalty to party decisions would be essential moving forward, adding that reconciliation efforts must reflect genuine commitment and a shared vision for the party’s future.

He also signalled that preparations for the 2027 elections are already underway, noting that the party intends to strengthen its grassroots structures and adopt data-driven strategies, including technology, to expand membership and enhance voter engagement.
