President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, for an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Latin America’s largest economy. He was warmly received at the airport by key Brazilian diplomats, including Carlos Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos José Moreno Garcete. Prominent Nigerian government officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, were also on hand to welcome the President.

Upon arrival, Tinubu proceeded directly to his hotel residence for the duration of his stay. There, he was received by high-ranking Nigerian political leaders, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abass, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau. Other notable figures present included Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and Minister of Trade and Investment Dr. Jumoke Oduwole. Also in attendance were the Ministers of Information, Livestock Development, and Innovation, Science, and Technology.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Tinubu is scheduled to meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace. The meeting will feature the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), followed by a joint press conference.

His itinerary also includes engagements with the leadership of Brazil’s Senate, Chamber of Deputies, and Supreme Federal Court. A major event will be the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum, where Tinubu will promote collaboration in areas such as aviation, agriculture, livestock, security, trade, and cultural exchange.

A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), which will enable direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil. Tinubu’s visit also includes discussions on agricultural development, energy transition, regional security, and broader strategic partnerships. Breakout sessions and side meetings involving various Nigerian ministries are expected to complement the high-level talks, making the visit a potential turning point in Nigeria’s international economic and diplomatic strategy.
