Real Madrid have moved a step closer to completing the signing of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande after agreeing personal terms with the highly rated teenager, following Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to withdraw from the race for his signature.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents, attracting interest from several elite clubs, including Liverpool and PSG, during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool were the first to make a concrete move for the winger in June, but their opening £69 million bid was rejected by RB Leipzig. The Premier League club subsequently shifted its attention to alternative transfer targets.
PSG remained in contention and reportedly submitted a final offer worth £102.5 million on Sunday. However, Leipzig turned down the proposal, prompting the French champions to abandon their pursuit rather than enter a bidding war with the Spanish giants.
Madrid have now taken advantage of the situation by reaching an agreement with Diomande over personal terms.
According to reports, the proposed contract is structured similarly to the performance-based deal awarded to England midfielder Jude Bellingham, allowing the winger’s earnings to increase through performance-related incentives.
Real Madrid are expected to pay in excess of £100 million to secure the youngster’s signature, making him one of the club’s biggest investments in recent years.
Diomande only joined RB Leipzig from Spanish side Leganés last summer on a five-year contract, but his remarkable development has rapidly elevated his status among Europe’s brightest young prospects.
Sources close to the Spanish club revealed that senior Madrid scouts José Ángel Sánchez and chief scout Juni Calafat have monitored Diomande’s progress for approximately five years, insisting the club’s interest predated his impressive performances on the international stage.
Although Leipzig have made efforts to retain the winger, the Bundesliga club reportedly recognises that sustained interest from Europe’s top clubs, combined with the prospect of a record-breaking transfer fee, has made keeping the player increasingly difficult.
Diomande enjoyed a sensational 2025/26 campaign, winning the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award after scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists.
His rise has been remarkable. After leaving his native Ivory Coast, he joined a football academy in the United States in 2025 before earning a move to Leganés. His performances in Spain paved the way for a transfer to RB Leipzig, where he quickly established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young stars.
