……..:…says detention of Nnamdi Kanu is the detention of the Entire Igbo Nation.

Chief Chekwas Okorie, Convener, Igbo Agenda Dialogue, 2025, who is also the Founder and Pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) made the call while appearing on a program , Beyond the Headlines, on Freedom Square TV, anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.
He stressed that Nnamdi Kanu’s case transcends his individual person and has become symbolic of the struggles, pains, and aspirations of the Igbo people within the Nigerian federation.
According to him, “whether you like it or not, any day he is in detention, the entire Igbo Nation is in detention.”
He stressed that the detention of Nnamdi Kanu deepens the feeling of alienation among the Igbo, further widening the gap between them and the central government.
He emphasized that the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu is used to ridicule Igbos and present Ohaneze Ndi Igbo as a toothless bulldog while noting that the matter requires more than a legal solution; it calls for political will, dialogue, and restructuring of the country to address long standing issues of marginalization.
Okorie urged the Federal Government to show sensitivity to the sentiments of millions of Igbos by ensuring a political resolution to Kanu’s detention. He further appealed for calm among the people, while calling on political leaders from the region to speak with one voice in pursuing justice and equity for their people.
He noted that until Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom is secured, the sense of fairness and belonging among the Igbo in Nigeria will remain in question.
