The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has dismissed claims that it is disposing of refinery equipment or scrap materials, describing such reports as inaccurate and deceptive.
In a statement issued by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the company clarified that it has not initiated any bidding process, tender, or expression of interest for the sale of refinery parts, scrap items, or materials from its facilities.
Odeh also revealed that some individuals have been falsely posing as agents of the company, attempting to lure unsuspecting members of the public with claims of facilitating the sale of so-called refinery scrap. He stressed that such persons are not authorised by the company and are engaged in fraudulent activities.
He urged the public, businesses, and stakeholders to ignore such offers and remain cautious when dealing with anyone making these representations.
The company further emphasised that it has not approved or carried out any sale of refinery equipment or materials. It added that any legitimate disposal of assets would follow due process, be transparent, and be officially announced through its recognised communication channels in line with regulatory standards.
NNPC also encouraged anyone who encounters such fraudulent claims to report them to law enforcement agencies, reiterating its commitment to accountability, transparency, and proper management of national energy resources.
