The University of Jos Alumni Association has called on security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the alleged mob killing of one of its graduates, Ibrahim Mbaya, and ensure that everyone involved is brought to justice.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association described the incident as “barbaric, unjustifiable and a gross violation of the right to life,” expressing outrage over the circumstances surrounding Mbaya’s death.

According to the association, Mbaya, an alumnus of the University of Jos, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob under circumstances that are yet to be fully established.

“We are deeply saddened and outraged by the gruesome killing of our colleague and brother, Ibrahim Mbaya. No Nigerian deserves to die in such a manner, irrespective of any allegation against them,” the statement read.

The alumni association urged law enforcement agencies to expedite investigations into the incident, identify and arrest all those responsible, and ensure they are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“We demand justice for Ibrahim Mbaya. The rule of law must prevail and not mob action,” the association stated, while also calling on the police to make the outcome of their investigation public.

The group further appealed to governments at all levels to intensify public awareness campaigns against jungle justice and strengthen measures aimed at protecting lives and property across the country.

“This incident should serve as a wake-up call for all of us. We must collectively reject mob killings and allow due process to take its course,” the statement added.

The association extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and pledged to support them in their quest for justice.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement on the incident.
