APC Fixes August 22 for Primaries Ahead of Legislative Bye-Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled Saturday, August 22, 2026, for its primary elections to select candidates for four restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, as well as legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.

The party announced the schedule in a timetable and programme of activities signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and released on Wednesday.

The APC said the timetable followed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states.

The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, while Yagba West II is in Kogi State.

For the legislative bye-elections, the party listed Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State; Udu State Constituency in Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.

According to the timetable, the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms will commence on Tuesday, August 18, and close on Thursday, August 20.

The deadline for submission of completed forms and accompanying documents is also August 20.

The party scheduled the screening of aspirants, publication of screening results and screening appeals for Friday, August 21, ahead of the primaries the following day.

Election appeals arising from the primaries are scheduled for Monday, August 24.

The APC fixed the expression of interest fee for State House of Assembly aspirants at N1 million, while the nomination fee is N5 million, bringing the total to N6 million.

For House of Representatives aspirants, the expression of interest fee is N1 million, while the nomination fee is N9 million, making a total of N10 million.

The party, however, provided concessions for female, youth and physically challenged aspirants.

“Female Aspirants, Youth and Physically Challenged Aspirants are to pay for the Expression of Interest and 50% of the prescribed Nomination fees for each position,” the party stated.

It also directed all aspirants to make payments directly and in full into the designated APC bank account.

The development followed INEC’s restoration of the four previously suppressed constituencies in Delta and Kogi states following court judgments.

The affected constituencies had remained without direct representation in the respective State Houses of Assembly for several years.

The APC timetable also covers the forthcoming legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.

In Gombe, the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat became vacant following the death of the former lawmaker, Tongo Yaya.

The party is expected to use the August 22 primaries to select its candidates ahead of the bye-elections and the contests for the restored State House of Assembly constituencies.
