Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his actions during the last All Progressives Congress primary election.
Elliot made the appeal during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other party leaders, where he reportedly went on his knees and prostrated before the former Speaker of the House of Representatives as he sought reconciliation with the APC leadership in Lagos.
The lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I said he regretted his actions and admitted that he might have been misguided during the party’s primary.
“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry. I’m deeply sorry, sir. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don’t be angry, Daddy,” Elliot said.
Gbajabiamila subsequently asked the lawmaker to get up.
Elliot also pledged to renew his loyalty to the party’s leadership, describing Gbajabiamila as his political mentor and elder brother.
He said any misunderstanding between them was unintentional, adding that he remained committed to the unity of the APC and the development of his constituency.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” he said.
The latest apology followed an earlier one by Elliot during an appearance on a television programme, where he also expressed regret over his political disagreements with Gbajabiamila.
The disagreement occurred against the backdrop of political tensions surrounding the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Gbajabiamila had previously disclosed that he faced difficulties at the Presidency over intelligence reports alleging Elliot’s involvement in moves linked to the Assembly speakership tussle. Elliot had denied the allegation.
The political crisis, which was rooted in disagreements within the APC, was eventually resolved following interventions by senior party leaders.
Elliot’s latest move is expected to further strengthen reconciliation efforts within the Lagos APC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
