FOSAD demands thorough investigation into the death of female student : The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) is distressed and gravely concerned by the tragic

news of the recent suicide of a female student, identified as Favour Ugwuka at Ebonyi State University (EBSU).

This heartbreaking incident, reportedly a consequence of alleged victimization by a lecturer,

Prof Amechi Uneke Enyi demands our immediate and unwavering attention.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and fellow students of the deceased especially her

mother, Mrs Grace Ugwuka. No family should endure the excruciating pain of losing a loved one, especially under such circumstances.

FOSAD stands firm in our commitment to ensuring a safe, supportive, and just academic environment for all students.

The allegations of victimization, if proven true, indicate a severe breach of ethical and professional conduct that cannot be tolerated within our educational institutions.

We call on the management of Ebonyi State University and relevant authorities to:

1. Initiate a Comprehensive Investigation: Conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the

circumstances surrounding this tragic event. It is imperative to ascertain the facts and hold accountable *any* individual

or *individuals* found guilty of this misconduct. *All* the *results* of examinations written on the *particular* course

taught by Prof Enyi so far by the student must be called up for verification.

2. Provide Support to the Victim’s Family: Offer immediate support and counseling services to the grieving family and friends of the deceased.

Their well-being should be a priority during this challenging time.

3. Implement Safeguards Against Victimization: Establish robust mechanisms to protect students from any form of victimization or

harassment by faculty or staff. This includes clear reporting channels, protection for whistleblowers, and strict enforcement of policies against misconduct.

4. Promote Mental Health Awareness: Enhance mental health resources and support systems within the university. Students should have

access to confidential counseling and mental health services to help them navigate academic and personal challenges.

5. Foster a Culture of Respect and Integrity: Reinforce the principles of respect, integrity, and empathy within the university community.

Educators must be reminded of their role as mentors and the profound impact of their conduct on students’ lives.
