Aminu Tambuwal Withdraws From 2027 Senate Race, Hands ADC Ticket To Younger Aspirant

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has stepped down from the race for the Sokoto South Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections, allowing former Finance Commissioner, Faruk Malami-Yabo, to emerge as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress.

Tambuwal, widely seen as the leading figure of the party in Sokoto State, reportedly made the decision after a series of consultations and disagreements within the party over the choice of candidates ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The Publicity Secretary of the ADC in Sokoto State, Lamir Aminu, explained that the former governor withdrew from the contest in order to preserve unity and stability within the party structure.

According to him, Tambuwal voluntarily surrendered the senatorial ticket to encourage peace, foster harmony among party members, and deepen internal democracy within the ADC.

Aminu further stated that the party leadership in Sokoto was focused on creating opportunities for younger politicians to contest elective positions, noting that Tambuwal’s action reflected the ADC’s commitment to nurturing energetic and emerging leaders.

He also disclosed that several ADC tickets for House of Representatives positions in Sokoto State had equally been allocated to younger aspirants as part of the party’s strategy to boost youth involvement in politics.
