Several pupils of Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State are feared kidnapped after suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists reportedly attacked the school early Friday morning.
Mussa community, located near the Sambisa Forest, is considered a vulnerable area due to its proximity to known terrorist hideouts.
According to sources, the attackers arrived on motorcycles and invaded the school shortly after security personnel stationed in the area had departed, reportedly within 10 to 15 minutes of the troops leaving the community.
Reacting to the incident in a social media post, Solomon Mussa appealed for prayers, stating that reports from the village indicated that schoolchildren were among those affected during the attack.
The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Askira, who is from Askira-Uba Local Government Area, confirmed the attack on the schools, although he noted that complete details were still unclear at the time of reporting.
He said suspected terrorists riding motorcycles stormed the primary and junior secondary schools in Mussa village during the morning hours.
According to him, preliminary information suggested that many students escaped into nearby bushes while the actual number of abducted children had yet to be confirmed.
Askira described the incident as disturbing, especially because it occurred only minutes after troops conducting patrol operations had left the area.
He added that the development suggested the attackers may have been monitoring the movement of security personnel before carrying out the assault.
The Deputy Speaker assured that more information would be provided as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
Attempts to obtain an official reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful as of the time the report was filed.
