The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially put to rest months of intense political rumor by confirming that Vice President Kashim Shettima will remain President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
On Friday, July 10, 2026, the party formally accepted the duo’s completed nomination documents at a ceremony in Abuja. Ibrahim Masari, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, delivered the paperwork to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
The timeline for submission was tight, occurring just ahead of the 6:00 pm Saturday deadline mandated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for uploading presidential and legislative candidates to its digital portal under the Electoral Act, 2026.
The event drew heavy support from top party figures, including state governors, federal lawmakers, and cabinet members. Speaking on behalf of the APC governors, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma praised the organization of the primary election that produced President Tinubu as the flagbearer and pledged unalloyed support for the joint ticket.
APC National Chairman Yilwatda expressed complete confidence in their re-election bid, stating that the party plans to campaign strictly on the administration’s scorecard. He pointed to landmark initiatives such as the national student loan program, substantial infrastructural development, and targeted agricultural interventions as proof that the administration has delivered.
Yilwatda predicted healthy voting competition among the country’s six geopolitical zones to see which region could mobilize the highest voter turnout for the incumbents. Following the presentation, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed to reporters that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket remains intact and ready for the 2027 ballot.
