The All Progressives Congress has won all 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship positions in the Enugu State local government elections held on Saturday, September 26.

The results were announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Christian Ngwu, at the commission’s headquarters in Enugu.

Ngwu declared the APC candidates winners of the chairmanship and councillorship contests across the state, saying the election was conducted in accordance with the rules guiding the commission.

The ENSIEC chairman subsequently presented certificates of return to the successful chairmanship candidates and urged the newly elected officials to regard their victories as a call to service.

Among the declared winners was the Enugu South Chairman-elect, Chief Caleb Ani, who attributed the APC’s performance to the developmental projects of Governor Peter Mbah.

Ani, after receiving his certificate of return, urged residents to support Mbah in the 2027 general election, while the Enugu APC Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, described the result as evidence of the party’s strength in the state. Those political assessments are statements by the party officials, rather than an independent assessment of the election.

The results showed wide margins for several APC candidates. In Igbo-Eze South, Ugochukwu Ukwueze reportedly secured all 51,033 votes cast, while Chris Onyebuchi similarly secured all 137,751 votes recorded in Igbo-Eze North. In Enugu South, Ani polled 71,335 votes against 1,311 votes recorded by his closest rival, A.A. Ugwu of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The election covered the 17 local government areas and 260 wards across Enugu State.
