Bayelsa CP Praises Youth Skills Initiative for Promoting Self-Reliance, Reducing Crime

The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, has commended the Bayelsa State Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme, describing it as a key contributor to the reduction of crime by equipping young people with practical entrepreneurial skills and creating opportunities for self-reliance.

The commendation was conveyed through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bayelsa State Police Command during a courtesy visit to the office of the Special Adviser to Governor Douye Diri on Entrepreneurship Development.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser, the PPRO said he was directed by the Commissioner of Police to personally deliver the message of appreciation.

The statement quoted Edebor as praising the impact of the Douye Diri Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme across the state, noting that it has helped address youth unemployment while contributing to improved security.

“The work your office is doing in promoting entrepreneurship development through the Douye Diri Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme is commendable.

“The positive impact of the programme is evident across Bayelsa State, as it has helped reduce crime by equipping youths with practical skills, creating opportunities for self-reliance and taking many young people off the streets,” the police commissioner said.

Edebor also commended Governor Douye Diri for prioritising youth empowerment through skills development initiatives, describing the governor’s approach as a demonstration of visionary leadership.

“Governor Douye Diri deserves commendation for his visionary leadership and commitment to empowering Bayelsa youths through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development,” he added.

Responding, the Special Adviser expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police for recognising the programme, describing the commendation as a motivation to continue advancing the state’s entrepreneurship agenda.

“I am sincerely grateful to the Commissioner of Police for this great honour and for sending the Police Public Relations Officer to personally deliver this encouraging message.

“It is a reminder that you may not always know who is watching your work, but dedication, commitment and genuine service will always speak for themselves,” he said.

He dedicated the recognition to members of his office, commending their commitment to implementing initiatives that positively impact the lives of Bayelsans.

“This recognition is not just an encouragement to me but to everyone in my office, whose commitment and hard work continue to make a positive impact on the lives of Bayelsans,” he stated.

The Special Adviser reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Governor Diri’s vision of promoting entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic empowerment, peace and sustainable development.

“I remain dedicated to supporting the vision of Governor Douye Diri by creating opportunities that empower our people, promote self-reliance and contribute to lasting peace and sustainable development in Bayelsa State,” he added.

The statement further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police pledged the Bayelsa State Police Command’s continued collaboration with the office in promoting entrepreneurship development and skills acquisition as strategic tools for enhancing security, economic growth and social stability across the state.
