Datti Baba-Ahmed Dumps Labour Party, Set to Join PRP Over Internal Rift

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has revealed plans to exit the party and align with the Peoples Redemption Party.

He made this known on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, explaining that internal conflicts and a shift away from the party’s original vision influenced his decision.

According to him, the Labour Party has strayed from the principles it once upheld, adding that certain internal developments had made the environment increasingly difficult, particularly for him.

Baba-Ahmed stated that his resignation would take effect at midnight, after which he would officially join the PRP, describing it as a party with deep historical roots and a legacy spanning several decades.

The PRP, established in 1978 by the late Aminu Kano, is widely recognised for its progressive ideology.

Baba-Ahmed had contested the 2023 presidential election alongside Peter Obi, a campaign that attracted strong youth backing and disrupted the traditional dominance of Nigeria’s major political parties, although it ultimately did not secure victory.
