Despite economic crisis Nigerian government intervene in Hajj fares: Vice-President of Nigeria Senator Kashim Shettima has inaugurated the 2024 pilgrimage to

Saudi Arabia at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport Birnin Kebbi. Stressing the significance

of Hajj for Muslims, he acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in overcoming challenges

to determine this year’s Hajj fares. Last year’s struggles led President Tinubu to intervene, stabilizing the

currency to establish reasonable fares. A total of N90 billion was approved to subsidize pilgrimage costs.

Shettima urged continuous prayers for the nation’s prosperity and emphasized the transformative power

of prayers offered in Mecca and Medina.

Speaking also the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, praised President Tinubu,

Vice-President Shettima, Kebbi State Government, and NAHCON for facilitating the inaugural flight.

He commended former Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, for constructing Birnin Kebbi international airport. Stressing discipline, he urged pilgrims to pray for Nigeria and its leaders, highlighting the impact of their prayers on national well-being.

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, also expressed delight at hosting the inaugural flight.

His administration tackled challenges faced by the Pilgrims Agency, including airlifting pilgrims from Sokoto State last year.

Measures taken included constructing an aviation fuel depot, engaging an aviation consultant, and improving infrastructure at the Hajj camp.

NAHCON National Chairman, Alhaji Jalal Ahmad Arabi, lauded the collaborative efforts of the Federal Government, Kebbi State Government, and stakeholders in facilitating the first airlift of pilgrims from Kebbi State. He urged pilgrims to uphold Nigeria’s image, comply with Saudi laws, avoid banned items, and safeguard their belongings as well.
