Former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu and four other dismissed police officers have pleaded not guilty to charges arising from the alleged extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Warri-based musician Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as “OG Million,” in Effurun, Delta State.
The defendants were arraigned on Tuesday before Justice M. Nduka of the Delta State High Court 4 in Asaba over the incident, which occurred on April 26.
Standing trial alongside Nuhu, also known as “Ogbegbe,” are former ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, as well as former Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevu.
Nuhu is facing a charge of murder under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Delta State, while the remaining four defendants were charged with negligent acts causing harm under Section 344 of the same law.
After the charges were read, all five accused persons entered pleas of not guilty.
Justice Nduka subsequently adjourned the matter until July 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
Speaking after the arraignment, Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, who is leading the prosecution, said the accused persons had exercised their constitutional right by taking their pleas.
He expressed confidence in the strength of the prosecution’s case, stressing that no individual has the authority to assume the roles of accuser, judge and executioner.
Ohwovoriole described the circumstances surrounding the incident as deeply disturbing and assured the public that the state government would pursue the case diligently to ensure justice is served.
According to him, the prosecution is fully prepared to proceed with the trial and remains committed to ensuring an expeditious hearing.
Counsel representing two of the defendants, C. Promise, also indicated readiness for the trial, noting that the case had been adjourned to July 14 following the defendants’ pleas.
Ogidi was fatally shot at the Effurun Main Motor Park in Uvwie Local Government Area after he was reportedly apprehended while attempting to send a parcel allegedly containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition to a recipient in Sapele.
According to the allegations, the musician had his hands tied behind his back before he was shot with an AK-47 rifle by ASP Nuhu in full public view. The incident was widely circulated after a video of the shooting went viral on social media, triggering widespread public outrage and calls for justice.
