Disclaimer: ENSIEC Disavows tackles Workshop Invitation, Warns of Misinformation

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has issued a vital disclaimer to correct a misleading letter that has been circulating among political parties. The letter, dated August 19, 2024, with reference number EN/SIEC/AD/24/03, was falsely attributed to ENSIEC and claimed to invite political parties to a one-day workshop. However, ENSIEC’s Executive Chairman, Prof. Christian C. Ngwu, has clarified that the commission did not authorize or collaborate with the NGO, Pat & Begos Consult, on this project.

The unauthorized use of ENSIEC’s letterhead has caused confusion and misinformation among political parties, and the commission has emphasized that it does not charge fees to political parties or their candidates. The disclaimer serves as a notice to disregard the initial letter and any associated claims, ensuring that political parties and candidates are aware of this misinformation.

In a surprising turn of events, a new letter has been released, countering the initial letter and correcting the misinformation. This development has raised questions about the authenticity of the workshop, themed “Peaceful Local Government Council Elections, Contest not Conflict,” scheduled for August 30, 2024, at Nike Lake Resort Enugu.

ENSIEC has reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness in electoral processes, emphasizing that any legitimate communication will come directly from the commission’s official channels and letterhead. Political parties and candidates are advised to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any communication from ENSIEC to avoid confusion and misinformation.
