Free-For-All Beating In Ogun As Victim Identifies Kidnapper

A suspected kidnapper was nearly beaten to death by an angry mob on Monday at Idi-Ori, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Ogun State, when he was reportedly recognized by one of his victims who raised the alarm on sighting him.

It was gathered that angry youths in the area descended on the alleged kidnapper and would have lynched him but for thetimely arrival of the police from the Lafenwa division in Abeokuta.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the man (alleged kidnapper) remained a suspect as investigation was ongoing on the allegation of kidnapping levelled against him.

In PPRO Oyeyemi’s words:

“The man is still a suspect until investigation is concluded. This is why it is not good for people to take the law into their hands. You cannot just carry somebody and make attempts to kill the person. They should let us investigate his culpability.

“And even if we are able to find out that he is a kidnapper, he cannot be alone. Our investigation will lead us to the arrest of others. So that in that axis, the syndicate will be dismantled once and for all.”
