Former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of betraying the people of the state, alleging that the governor misled supporters during the prolonged political crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Ewor claimed that Fubara failed to communicate openly with Rivers residents and political stakeholders, leading many to wrongly believe that Wike was preventing him from governing effectively.

According to the former PDP chairman, the governor’s lack of transparency prompted many supporters, including women and political leaders, to publicly defend him during the crisis.

“It’s Fubara himself who betrayed the people of Rivers. If Fubara had been open, transparent and communicated with the people of Rivers, I don’t think the women would have taken to the streets.

“I don’t think our leaders would have given him the level of support they did, including myself,” Ewor said.

He admitted that he had strongly criticised the FCT minister during the height of the political dispute because he believed Wike was obstructing the governor’s administration.

“I said several unprintable words against the FCT Minister, believing that he was stopping Fubara from doing his work, but at the end of the day, we discovered that it wasn’t so,” he stated.

Ewor maintained that Fubara has continued to withhold his true political position from Rivers people, arguing that greater openness would have prevented many of his supporters from taking risks on his behalf.

“Fubara is not open. Up till now, he is still not open. If he tells Rivers people this is where I stand, they won’t take all the risks they have taken,” he added.

The former PDP chairman, however, welcomed the governor’s recent decision to align with the Rainbow Coalition, describing it as a return to his political roots.

“I thank God that he has led Rivers people back to the Rainbow Coalition,” Ewor said.

His remarks come amid renewed political realignments in Rivers State following Governor Fubara’s public declaration that he had rejoined the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement founded by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
