COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE APRIL MEETING OF GREATER AWGU MEDIA PROFESSIONALS (GAMP)
APRIL 27, 2026
The Greater Awgu Media Professionals (GAMP), representing the three local government areas of Awgu, Oji-River, and Aninri, which together form a federal constituency, held its April meeting on April 27, 2026. The meeting resolved as follows:
1. University of Education, Ihe: GAMP commends the Enugu State Government for acknowledging the University of Education, Ihe, in its development plans. The group urges that the project be adequately captured in the state’s next annual budget.
2. College of Health Technology, Oji-River: GAMP calls on the state government to urgently address the deplorable state of facilities at the College of Health Technology, Oji-River, and to take immediate steps to upgrade them.
3. Awgu General Hospital: GAMP appeals to the state government to post resident doctors to Awgu General Hospital. Currently, clinical services are provided only about three times a week by visiting doctors, leaving patients and staff vulnerable in emergencies.
4. Awgu Games Village: GAMP congratulates the state government for selecting Awgu Games Village as one of the venues for the upcoming National Sports Festival. The group reiterates its call for expedited action to upgrade the facilities at the Games Village to meet national standards.
5. Windstorm Disaster in Aninri: GAMP urges the state government to coordinate with relevant federal and state agencies to provide immediate relief to victims of the recent windstorm in Aninri Local Government Area, which damaged over 60 buildings, including churches, schools, and residential homes.
6. Political Decency: GAMP calls on the people of Greater Awgu to refrain from personal attacks on political office holders based on partisan differences. Such actions amount to self-denigration and can harm the community. During this political season, aspirants and supporters are urged to conduct themselves with maturity, decency, and respect while promoting their agendas.
7. The Greater Awgu Media Professionals remain committed to constructive engagement with the state government and the people of the region to foster development, peace, and unity.
