Governor Mbah Appoints Enugu Air Chairman Richard Agu as Transport Commissioner After Ozor’s Exit

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved the appointment of Barrister Richard Agu as the Commissioner-Designate for the Ministry of Transport, following the abrupt and controversial exit of the former commissioner, Obi Ozor.

Prior to his elevation, Agu served as the Board Chairman of Enugu Air, the state’s aviation initiative. In an official statement released by the administration, Governor Mbah confirmed that Agu’s nomination has been formally transmitted to the Enugu State House of Assembly for legislative screening and confirmation. Once confirmed, he will officially assume operational leadership of the ministry.

The cabinet adjustment comes on the heels of the sudden resignation of Obi Ozor. Reports indicate that Ozor stepped down from his position amidst an active investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into allegations surrounding the financial mismanagement and embezzlement of state funds running into billions of naira.

Agu brings a legal and administrative background to the role, having overseen state transport and aviation initiatives. Stakeholders across Enugu State expect the new transport leadership to stabilize operations within the ministry, accelerate key infrastructure projects, and maintain accountability in the administration’s broader urban transport modernization strategy.
