The Minister for Transportation and former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he is not an Igbo President and that he will never be one.
He made the declaration in Ogun State while soliciting the support of the state’s All Progressive Congress (APC) delegates to further his quest to occupy the highest seat in the country ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.
In a meeting with the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and the delegates, Mr. Amaechi stated as follows:
“I am very experienced. I am not an Igbo candidate and I will never be one. I am not a Yoruba candidate and I will never be one. I am not a Hausa/Fulani candidate and I will never be a Hausa/Fulani candidate. I am a Nigerian candidate”
He told the delegates to dump their “son” Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is also contesting for the presidency, and vote for him (Amaechi) because he has more experience in dealing with the kind of problems Nigeria is currently facing.
Giving example of his experience fighting insecurity, Mr. Amaechi said:
“No one among them competing has governed a state where there was insecurity. When I was elected governor of Rivers, two-month-old children were being kidnapped.
“What did I do? I made a law that if you pay the ransom you will be imprisoned for 6 months. Because where there is no demand, there will be no supply.“
