‘Jonathan Allowed You To Insult Him’ – Rufai Oseni Blasts APC Over Opposition Harassment

Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has strongly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reminding its leadership of the political freedoms they enjoyed while in opposition under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking during Wednesday’s broadcast of Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oseni addressed what he described as the current administration’s ongoing harassment and targeting of opposition figures. He noted that former President Jonathan consistently tolerated severe criticism, protests, and public insults without utilizing state machinery to suppress or silence his political rivals.

According to reports, Oseni questioned the current political climate, stating: “If Jonathan had treated the opposition badly, would they be in power today? Would APC be in power? Jonathan allowed them to talk, he allowed them to protest, he allowed them to even abuse him. That is democracy.”

The broadcaster labeled the current trend of political intimidation as shameful, warning that suppressing opposing views undermines the country’s democratic framework. Oseni cautioned that if the ruling party continues to stifle dissent, Nigeria risks sliding toward a one-party state and political instability. He urged the APC leadership to accept democratic criticism, allow the opposition to function freely, and redirect its focus toward effective governance.
