Jungle Justice : Angry youths Bury two men in Benue:  In a shocking incident, two individuals have

reportedly been buried alive in the Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria, after

being accused of causing a thunder strike that killed three people in the community. The deceased

individuals, a man identified as Henry Ihwakaa and another elderly man purported to be his collaborator,

were apprehended and buried by irate youths in the area.

The incident occurred on Saturday when a light rain accompanied by thunder hit Henry Ihwakaa, his

wife, and their two-week-old child, leading to their untimely demise. In response, the youths in the

village mobilized and attacked Ihwakaa and the elderly man before burying them alive in a shallow grave.

A community leader, Baba Agan, reported the case to the police at Tse Agbaragba, the headquarters

of the local government, but unfortunately, by the time the police arrived at the scene, the two victims

had already died. The state police command has since confirmed the incident and has arrested two suspects in connection with the development.

The police command has also urged the public against resorting to jungle justice and instead called on

aggrieved persons to report any case of disagreement to the police for necessary action. The incident

has sparked outrage and concerns over the rising incidents of jungle justice in Nigeria.

While the tragic deaths of the individuals struck by lightning are a cause for sorrow and grief, the violent

actions of the irate youths in response to the incident are an equally concerning issue. The practice of jungle justice is a violation of human rights and the rule of law and undermines the legitimacy of the justice system. It is crucial that authorities take concrete steps to prevent such occurrences and bring those responsible to justice.

The incident in Benue State serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of resorting to vigilante justice and the need for communities to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving conflicts. It is imperative that the authorities take strong action to ensure that justice is served and to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
