Nasarawa deputy governor kidnapped by unknown gunmen- Police:  Professor Onje Gye-Wado, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Nigeria, was abducted

by unknown gunmen in his country home in Rinza village, Wamba local government area of the state,

late on Thursday night.

According to reports, the kidnappers gained entry into the compound by breaking through the fence

and his wife’s window before abducting him to an unknown location. This is not the first time the

former Deputy Governor has faced a kidnapping attempt.

According to a family source, Professor Wado had survived three previous kidnapping attempts,

while one of his cousins was killed during one of the attempts.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and assured the public that rescue

efforts are ongoing. The Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba, stated that police operatives had

swiftly moved to the scene after receiving the information, but the abductors had fled with the victim before the police arrived.

The police have urged anyone with information about the former Deputy Governor’s whereabouts to come forward.

Prof. Onje Gye-Wado served as Deputy Governor under the administration of Senator Abdullahi Adamu,

the current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), between 1999 and 2003.

The news of his abduction has caused concern among the people of Nasarawa State, as well as Nigerians

in general. Kidnapping for ransom has become a significant security challenge in Nigeria, with many

high-profile individuals falling victim to the crime in recent years.
