Nigerian Delegation Led by Dr. Uchenna Cyril Anioke Attends 2nd African Publishers Conference in Harare: The 2nd African Publishers Conference is set to take place in Harare, Zimbabwe, from June 3rd to 4th, 2024.

The conference, hosted by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and Zimbabwe Book Publishers Association

(ZBPA), aims to enhance the capacity of the African publishing industry to promote literacy. The theme of the conference

is “Enhancing the Capacity of African Publishing Industry for the Promotion of Literacy.”

The conference is organized by the African Publishers Network (APNET) with the support of several partners, including the

World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO),

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), Zimbabwe Book Publishers Association (ZBPA), and International Publishers Association (IPA).

The conference will feature presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and an APNET General/Business meeting.

Over 70 participants from 30 countries are expected to attend, including officials and speakers from the partnering organizations.

High-profile dignitaries, including the Minister for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi, and the Minister for Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Hon. Kirsty L. Coventry, will also be in attendance.

The conference aims to achieve several objectives, including building the capacity of publishers’ associations and the publishing industry,

strengthening copyright and Reprographic Rights Organizations (RROs), promoting national book and reading policies, and advancing

knowledge and understanding of the African publishing industry. The conference will also sensitize and promote pilot projects and research in book publishing innovations.

the edition

The 1st edition of the conference was held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in 2023, and this year’s conference promises to be bigger and more impactful.

The theme of the conference is timely, as the African publishing industry plays a crucial role in promoting literacy among Africans.

The conference will provide a platform for publishers and professionals to network, explore business opportunities, and strengthen their capacities.

Virtual participation will also be possible for individuals and organizations in remote areas.

Overall, the 2nd African Publishers Conference is an important regional meeting that promises to drive progress in the publishing industry in Africa.
