Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, have called for greater unity among Ndigbo, describing the new Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Headquarters in Enugu as a symbol of the shared heritage and aspirations of the Igbo people.

The two leaders made the call during an inspection of the multi-million-naira facility located on Park Avenue, GRA, Enugu. The project, funded by Okorocha through his foundation as a gift to the Igbo nation, is nearing completion and is expected to be formally handed over in October 2026.

Speaking after inspecting the facility, Governor Mbah commended Okorocha for the initiative, saying the project was a reminder of the common roots of Ndigbo and the importance of working together for the development of the South-East.

Mbah said the facility was a befitting structure for the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation and expressed hope that it would provide a platform for greater cooperation among Igbo people at home and in the diaspora.

Okorocha, who explained that the project was motivated by his desire to provide Ohanaeze Ndigbo with a more befitting headquarters, said the initiative was driven by his commitment to the Igbo people rather than an attempt to display wealth.

According to him, the new secretariat should go beyond serving as an administrative centre and become an institution capable of supporting and protecting Ndigbo around the world.

He said the facility could serve as a point of intervention whenever Igbo citizens abroad face difficulties or require assistance in protecting their rights and dignity.

The former governor also explained that he chose to undertake the project outside his tenure as governor because Ohanaeze Ndigbo is primarily a cultural institution rather than a political organisation.

The new headquarters features two auditoriums, 11 offices, conference rooms, an interactive audio-visual library and a dedicated creative art and memorabilia space designed to preserve aspects of Igbo history and culture.

The official handover of the facility to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership and the Enugu State Government is scheduled for October 2026.
