The Nigerian Army has activated three new Infantry Battalions in Zamfara State as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and improve rapid response to threats across the state.

The newly activated battalions are the 12 Infantry Battalion in Bakura, the 23 Infantry Battalion in Kaura Namoda, and the 28 Infantry Battalion in Anka.

According to the Army, the deployment of the new units is expected to expand its operational coverage and strengthen security within their respective Areas of Responsibility.

Speaking during the activation ceremonies, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General BP Koughna, represented by the Acting Commander, 1 Brigade, Colonel Joseph Umaru, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to improving security in Zamfara State.

Umaru said the Army would continue working to protect law-abiding citizens, while stressing that achieving lasting peace requires cooperation between security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities.

He also called on residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and responding to security threats.

The newly deployed troops were urged to maintain discipline, professionalism and vigilance while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities and observing established rules of engagement.

Traditional rulers in Bakura, Anka and Kaura Namoda welcomed the establishment of the new battalions and expressed their readiness to support the Army through community mobilisation and information sharing.

The Army said the new battalions would enhance its ability to respond quickly to security threats and strengthen military operations across Zamfara State.
