Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has formally transferred the administration of the state to his deputy, Bayo Lawal, as he prepares to commence his annual leave on August 10.

The handover followed the approval of the governor’s request by the Oyo State House of Assembly during Thursday’s plenary.

In a letter addressed to the Assembly, Makinde informed lawmakers that he would be on annual leave from August 10 to September 11 and is expected to resume official duties on September 14.

The governor also notified the House that Deputy Governor Lawal would oversee the affairs of the state throughout the period of his absence.

The letter was read during plenary by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.

Following deliberations, members of the Assembly unanimously approved the governor’s request and expressed confidence in the deputy governor’s ability to manage the affairs of the state during the leave period.

The lawmakers directed Lawal to supervise the day-to-day administration of the state and ensure the uninterrupted implementation of government programmes and delivery of public services until the governor returns.

Congratulating the governor, Fadeyi wished Makinde a peaceful and restful vacation, while reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to sustaining its cordial relationship with the executive arm of government.

He also expressed confidence in the deputy governor’s capacity to provide effective leadership, noting that the existing structures of government would guarantee continuity in governance and the execution of ongoing policies during the governor’s absence.
